This project is a bold new renovation and addition to a 1980’s era home overlooking the foothills of Belmont on the outskirts of Geelong. The owners’ brief was to transform the existing property into a comfortable four bedroom home suitable to the contemporary needs of a busy modern family.
Integral to the two-storey design response was the decision to retain as much of the existing double brick structural elements and upper level suspended concrete slab as practicable. New extensions have been added to both the front and rear, with a complete redevelopment of the upper level resulting in a striking new presence within the streetscape that is barely recognisable from the original.
The new floorplan is laid out around a central double-height entry lobby and staircase, leading to spacious light-filled upper level living areas and bedroom zones. High ceilings and expansive glazing offer extensive panoramic views that extend through a series of light, bright living spaces, seamlessly connecting to outdoor al fresco and pool areas. At the heart of the home sits a generous well-appointed kitchen and pantry centred around a feature marble clad island bench with skylight above. A second living space to the rear provides a more intimate family-orientated experience, providing a transition to bedrooms, bathrooms and ancillary spaces.
Careful attention has been paid to achieving robust yet elegantly refined external detailing on site, complementing an interior material pallet that features natural surfaces, lighter colour tones, and curved feature elements. The result is a unique and highly sophisticated home that successfully celebrates refined architectural style with meticulously considered craftsmanship.
